Community-Watch-RoundKelly Puente, staff writer for the Long Beach Register, has recently filed a few stories related to Community Watch programs in Long Beach, which we wanted to share with you:

The last of these articles not only provides some helpful suggestions for those who live in areas that do not yet have a neighborhood watch group and want to start one, but also features a quote from Rose Park’s very own Community Watch coordinator, Rachel de Jong.

Take advantage of the City of Long Beach Second Council District’s 2014 e-Waste and Recycling Drive: Sat, 1 Feb 2014 9:00a–12:00p at Long Beach Blvd & Broadway Ave

Do you have electronic items piling up at home that you need to dispose of? Bring them to the Second Council District’s e-Waste and Recycling Drive, which is taking place on Saturday, February 1st, between 9:00a and 12:00p in the parking lot located at Broadway Ave and Long Beach Blvd!

Any of the following items can be dropped off for safe disposal/recycling: computers, monitors, printers, laptops, televisions, DVD or CD players, digital clocks, remote-control toys, keyboards, fax machines, cell phones, and digital cameras.

Appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, and dishwashers, and bulk items such as chairs, sofas, and mattresses will also be accepted, as will gently used clothing, fashion accessories, and other similar items. Batteries—but only household batteries—can also be dropped off.

Note: Unfortunately, industrial e-waste, household e-waste not listed above, and fluorescent items cannot be accepted at this drive.

Cell phones will be donated to the Interval House Crises Center.

The drive is sponsored through a partnership between Goodwill Industries, Inc.; Long Beach Environmental Services, Interval House Crises Center, and Councilmember Suja Lowenthal’s Office.
