LA County has passed EMERGENCY DOLLARS NOW AVAILABLE FOR RENTERS & MOM-AND-POP LANDLORDS but you need to act by May 31st

May 13th – LA County launched a new Emergency Rental Assistance Program. This $3.7 million program provides a lifeline to income-eligible renters and mom-and-pop landlords in unincorporated areas of LA County.

Those eligible for this program must be impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic – whether it’s through job loss, furloughs or reduction in hours or pay.

If found eligible, recipients of emergency rental assistance will receive up to $1,000 per month, for three months, to: 1) Pay rent, 2) Meet mortgage obligations on rental properties, and/or 3) Reduce rental payment delinquency in arrears.

Program applications must be received by May 31, 2020. To apply, visit 211la.org/covid-rental-help or dial 2-1-1.

Other property concerns:

RPNA has noticed an uptick in property code violations – still not a huge problem – but concerning. As a neighborhood, we’ve worked for decades for property maintenance conformance. At this time, it is especially important to address safety and hazards. We understand code enforcement is making on-site inspections during the stay-at-home orders. Please call your concern to (562) 570-CODE (2633). Or email info@rpna.org with the property address, specific issues and photo if possible. But before you do….try checking out whether there is a open case at that property. We are all in this together – if people need help removing trash and debris – let us know.

On the historic district side of things – Certificates of Appropriateness are still being submitted and reviewed. RPNA gets requested to provide input to the Commission on Cultural Heritage (CHC). It is the CHC that makes the determination. Our volunteers work to help inform the applicant and the CHC to make the best decision for all. Let’s thank our historic district liaisons!!! And, if you are considering taking on an exterior modification including painting, roof fencing or change in structure please start with the City’s historic preservation office first – Historic Districts are a city program.
