JOCELYN SANCHEZ HOPES TO SEE YOU AT THE ROSE PARK NEIGHBORHOOD COMMUNITY MEETING!

With the Rose Park Neighborhood Community Meeting happening Saturday, October 9th at 10:30am at the SW corner of E7th Street and Dawson Avenue, we thought we would give our fantastic intern, Jocelyn Sanchez a chance to tell you a bit about her experience in Rose Park …

Jocelyn reflects on her experience here: “For the past two months, I have had the chance to work with Roses for Rose Park with resident and artist Cody Lusby, attend the Art in Rose Park sessions every Thursday from 3 – 5:30 PM, help disseminate the COVID 19 Tenant Survey put out by Long Beach Residents Empowered (LiBRE), and help with the vaccine clinic at St. Matthew Church. I have loved getting the chance to work with all the wonderful and caring residents of Rose Park, and I look forward to meeting many more over the next few months.

Rose Park has given me the chance to learn more about my nearby community and find ways to increase the quality of life in our neighborhood through the data provided by residents.  Art in Rose Park Thursdays gives me the chance to relax and unwind from the week and doodle all my worries away, while meeting more of the residents of Rose Park.

One of the recent initiatives by Rose Park Neighborhood Association was helping run a COVID vaccine clinic at St. Matthew Church, and it was a great success with 42 individuals vaccinated with either their first or second shot. I had the pleasure to meet so many different residents of Rose Park, and I was able to have the joy of helping people find a way to get their first shot for the COVID vaccine. I look forward to continue working with Rose Park, and I hope to meet many of you at the Community meeting Saturday and at Art in Rose Park on Thursdays!

Espero conocer a todos en la reunión de la comunidad Sábado!” – Jocelyn Sanchez, CSULB Student and Rose Park Neighborhood Intern.

SAVE THE DATE FOR THESE UPCOMING EVENTS …

Come on out Saturday morning October 9th at 10:30am for coffee and donuts and learn more about neighborhood initiatives and how to get involved. Learn about important initiatives including:

Hearts Across Long Beach – A community wellness project for essential workers. Participating organizations are provided a mosaic art kit to create a moment of beauty, healing, and self expression with these mosaic hearts. The mosaic hearts will be displayed as part of an exhibition within the community.

On the Boulevard – This on-going activity aims to bring out neighbors, businesses and participating organizations along E7th Street. This interaction allows for increased and improved relationships among individual shop and business owners and the residents within walking distance. The overall goal is to increase the safety and walkability of this high-speed corridor!

The Flower Wall – A community art wall in our neighborhood at E7th Street and Dawson. Community volunteers create mosaic flowers, butterflies, and more to revitalize this space.

Everyone is welcome to attend this FREE event!
