A Clean Vision for 2007

Scottie Hinkey

A s we enter the new year, I want to talk about trash. Yes, the trash that litters our streets and alleys. In two recent Rose Park cleanups, we hauled away more than seven tons of trash.

Large items like couches, appliances, toilets and construction debris are dumped in our alleys every day. Help us by simply picking up the phone and calling the Environmental Services Hotline at 570-2876 for a pickup.

Environmental Services provides each residential account (on your gas bill) with two free “Special Collections” annually. They accept furniture, appliances, computers and monitors, TVs, tires, yard debris and other odd items. Take advantage of this service; it’s easy.

Another easy thing to do is to take a trash bag with you when you take a walk. Many of us living in Rose Park pick up trash on our own streets once a week. It makes a difference.

Join the city in its campaign for a litter free Long Beach. We can help. We can make a difference.

Have a bright–and very clean–New Year.
