State of the 2nd District spotlights community's successes, challenges

Suja Lowenthal

I would like to start by thanking Scottie and Kerstin for their wonderful job representing Rose Park at my first State of the Second District event, held July 31 at the Aquarium of the Pacific.

At this gathering, we had a chance to hear from the different communities that make up the Second District. We learned of many successful events and initiatives being planned by neighborhood associations.

We also gained appreciation for the challenges that different parts of our community face.

In sharing our experiences, we inspire our neighbors to achieve more; we inform one another on the most effective methods for improving our community; and we gain strength in the knowledge that we are not alone in our struggles to carve out a portion of the American dream right here in our own community.

During my first year in office as your councilmember, there have been many successes, some challenges too, but I am proud to say that I have enjoyed every moment in office and cherish the friendships and partnerships developed over the course of our first year together.

I look forward to working with the Rose Park Neighborhood Association in the year ahead.
