OUT AND ABOUT IN ROSE PARK NEIGHBORHOOD

(Pictured Left to Right: George Benitez, Cody Lusby, and Rahul Sen)

Last Friday, April 9th, we welcomed Rahul Sen, Policy Director of Councilwoman Cindy Allen’s Office into Rose Park Neighborhood with a friendly tour starting at the Friendship Corner rose mural and flower wall at Dawson and 7th Street. We walked down 7th street and up Temple to Rose Park. We discussed the need for slowing down speed along 7th street, talked about park activation ideas such as programming for youth and a mobile coffee unit for neighbors.

We continued on to the parking lot of Revive Church where Long Beach Farms provides seasonal produce boxes to neighborhood subscribers every Sunday and Help Me Help You provides FREE pantry packs to those in need on the 1st and 3rd Friday of every month. We envisioned future neighborhood actions such as the “Parking Lot Skate Jam” accompanied by an art wellness project for creative expression.

Finally, we ventured over to the Rose Alley community mural at 2913 E. 6th Street and ran into the creator, artist and resident Cody Lusby, and Rose Park resident and artist George Benitez.
