Mann Elementary MLK Day Gardens
Remember the fantastic day of service at Mann Elementary in honor of Martin Luther King Jr? Well, it’s a day that keeps on giving back to our Mann community. On Wednesday, March 27th parents and neighbors harvested another round of vegetables to offer up for free as an afterschool “Farmers Market” at Mann Elementary. The harvest included lettuce, onions, broccoli, cauliflower, snap peas, cilantro, parsley and more! Thank you to all who came out to support the growing gardens at Mann Elementary!
Rose Park and Bluff Heights Neighborhoods teamed up with Mann Elementary for a school and neighborhood clean-up on Saturday, January 13th.
Over 75 volunteers attended the MLK Day of Service at Mann Elementary. Volunteers planted vegetables, herbs and fruit in the school’s planters, participated in clean-up projects throughout the neighborhood, weeded and watered the newly planted Corto Place trees in Bluff Heights Neighborhood. Volunteers picked up 16 trash bags of over 160 pounds of waste collected from neighborhood alleys and around Mann Elementary school.
Special thanks to Vanessa of Litter Free Long Beach and the Clean Team for collecting waste and refuse from neighbors and to the Salvation Army for collecting donations at the event.
The MLK Day of Service also included a discovery walk for kids and positive messaging activities for families. Much appreciation to Bluff Heights Neighborhood Association for providing lunch, and gifting the gardening books and butterfly kits to families.
We are grateful to all of our volunteers who came out to support and care for our neighborhood in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Let’s continue to see and care for each other and our environment!
Special thanks to The Port of Long Beach for sponsoring this event.
