VIRTUAL WALK TO SCHOOL WEEK March 22 – March 26

Did you know that kids need at least 60 minutes and adults need at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day?

The City’s Walk and Roll Long Beach Program and local community partners celebrate the first Long Beach Virtual Walk to School Week!

The event provides a fun and engaging way to reinforce the goal of walking safely to school amongst students and their families. While we cannot gather and celebrate in person this year, staying active and healthy by practicing walking to school or simply getting outside is more important than ever!

Tips for Pedestrians and Drivers:

1. Remember to drink water before and after your walk. If you will be walking long distances, bring a water bottle along on your walk.

2. It is always best to walk on sidewalks or designated pedestrian paths and cross at street corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks. When the light turns green, make sure the cars have stopped before you cross into the street.

3. Drivers, please respect pedestrians when you are behind the wheel of your car. Stay alert and distracted free! Make eye contact, stop and look both ways for all pedestrians.

Try something new today for Long Beach Virtual Walk to School Week.

HEARTS ACROSS LONG BEACH

Hearts Across Long Beach is a community wellness project for essential workers. Participating organizations are provided a mosaic art kit to create a moment of beauty, healing, and self expression with these mosaic hearts. The mosaic hearts are then displayed as part of a larger exhibit within the community.

Please take a moment to view the beautiful hearts created by participating organizations including: Global ParaTransit, Inc., The Silver Family in Support of Postal Workers, and Project Return Peer Support Network “Hacienda of Hope.”

We hope this activity provided a moment for our essential workers to breathe, reflect and create beauty. This is an ongoing project with more hearts to come from participating organizations. If you would like to learn more or donate, please email info@rpna.org.
