Mobile Access Center & Fourth Fridays in November

Long Beach’s Mobile Access Center Continues Homeless Services Outreach Throughout November

Long Beach, CA – The City of Long Beach continues to deploy its Mobile Access Centers (MAC) in select Long Beach areas weekdays throughout November, with an added location Downtown, and additional locations forthcoming. The MAC vehicles significantly lower barriers to providing case management services and other resources for people experiencing homelessness, as it allows the City’s Homeless Services Bureau outreach staff to conduct meaningful engagement and relationship building and start the intake process right on the street.

Throughout November, MAC vehicles will be stationed at the following locations from 9 a.m. to noon:

Mondays

  • MacArthur Park (1321 E. Anaheim St.), near the basketball courtson Warren Avenue (west side of park)
  • Willow Street Metro Station (200 E. 27th St.), E. 27th Street turnaround near the shopping center
  • Tuesdays
  • Christian Outreach in Action (515 E. 3rd St.), parked on Linden Avenue
  • Scherer Park (4600 Long Beach Blvd.), parked on the east side of the park in the parking lot off Atlantic Avenue near the Long Beach Police Department North Division Station
  • Wednesdays
  • In the area of Billie Jean King Main Library (200 W. Broadway) and Lincoln Park, parked on Ocean Boulevard in Downtown
  • In the area of the South Street and Cherry Avenue intersection, parked near the northeast corner of the intersection off South Street
  • Thursdays
  • Drake/Chavez Soccer Fields (903-999 Fairbanks Ave.); the van will be parked facing Los Angeles River near the parking lot located on De Forest Avenue just south of the soccer fields
  • Houghton Park (6301 Myrtle Ave.), Atlantic Avenue side of the park
    • Note the MACs will not operate on Thursday, Nov. 23, in observance of Thanksgiving
  • Fridays
  • Alamitos Beach Parking Lot near the south end of the parking lot, at Shoreline Drive and Beach Access Road
  • Bixby Park (130 Cherry Ave.), parked near the corner of Cherry Avenue and East 1st Street

MAC vehicles will also be stationed from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the locations below:

  • In the area of Elm Avenue and Second Street in Downtown
  • In the area of Billie Jean King Main Library (200 W. Broadway) and Lincoln Park, parked on Ocean Boulevard in Downtown
  • Tuesdays
  • Houghton Park (6301 Myrtle Ave.), Atlantic Avenue side of the park
  • Granada Beach Parking Lot (5100 E. Ocean Blvd.), parked near Roycroft Avenue and Ocean Boulevard
  • Wednesdays
  • 6th Street and Long Beach Boulevard, on 6th Street between Long Beach Boulevard and Elm Avenue
  • Heartwell Park (5801 Parkcrest St.), parked in the parking lot of East Carson Street between Woodruff Avenue and North Bellflower Boulevard

As of Oct. 27, the MAC encountered and offered services in October to 485 people who are experiencing homelessness. To date, the MAC has 3,023 recorded engagements with people experiencing homelessness, and of those engagements, 1,683 services have been provided, including referral and transport to shelter, enrollment into the homeless services system, connections to community resources and basic services. To date, 913 people have enrolled as MAC program participants to receive ongoing case management support.

Picnic in Rose Park, Mobile Recess Program, Fourth Fridays, Summer Food Program, & Native Milkweed Seedlings Giveaway

PICNIC IN ROSE PARK

It’s the annual Picnic in Rose Park! Kids and adults will take part in the famous watermelon eating contest provided by Safe Refuge, cool off with the water balloon toss and race to the finish line with the sack race. This FREE event will also feature FREE hot dogs and music from George DJ Matrix. Please bring your own picnic and chair.

Mobile Recess Program

The free Mobile Recess Program will bring trucks loaded with supplies and equipment to designated neighborhood streets and provide free recreational activities for youth ages 5 through 14 (Grades K-8).

Those interested in participating may register in person at any of the participating Mobile Recess locations, Space is limited and all sign-ups are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Tuesday & Thursday at Rose Park, Orizaba Avenue and 8th Street, 10 a.m. – noon

Summer Food Program

The City of Long Beach, Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine offer the Free Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). Since 1979, the City of Long Beach has served over 2 million meals to children and teens between the ages of 1-18. The program was established to ensure that during summer school vacation, children would be able to receive the same well-balanced meals that they receive during the school year. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) for Children is funded through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by the California Department of Education (CDE).

Ages: 1 to 18 years old (Infant Meals Will Not Be Served)
Dates:  Tuesday, June 20 – Friday, August 25, 2023
